I Sanam sono un sestetto di Beirut, Libano, che fonde elementi psych/kraut, improvvisazione, jazz, goth ed elettronica con la canzone tradizionale egiziana e la poesia araba moderna. Il risultato è un’avvincente miscela avant-rock in tensione tra tenui fremiti e ballate infuocate.

info: Formatasi su impulso di Hans Joachim Irmler dei Faust, leggende del krautrock tedesco, la band ha consolidato la propria identità durante una residenza discografica nelle zone rurali del Libano, in un periodo di tumulti nazionali. E’ nato così il disco di debutto, “Aykathani Malakon” (2023) mixato da Radwan Ghazi Moumneh (Jerusalem in My Heart). Un’opera che trasmette l’urgenza, il misticismo e lo sconvolgimento emotivo della vita contemporanea in quella parte del mondo. E che ha portato la band a suonare in giro per l’Europa (su tutte si ricorda la loro intensissima performance a Le Guess Who?) e a catturare l’attenzione unanime della migliore critica internazionale.
La stessa urgenza artistica, estetica e politica fa capolino nel secondo disco, in uscita a fine settembre sulla mitica Constellation Records (Godspeed You! Black Emperor e tanti altri). L’album si intitola “Sametou Sawtan” che tradotto dall’arabo significa “ho sentito una voce“, e a produrlo è l’ormai fedele collaboratore – e già citato – Radwan Ghazi (Jerusalem In My Heart).
