Stephen Steinbrink (nato il primo di Maggio del 1988) è un cantautore di pop sperimentale, polistrumentista, e ingegnere del suono nato e cresciuto in Arizona che al momento vive ad Olympia, Washington. Stephen ha registrato canzoni in formati pop/folk/pseudo-dance che sono raccolte nei suoi sei dischi e in dozzine di cassette, EP, 7”, e VHS. Stephen è andato in tour in Nord America e Europa, esibendosi sui palchi sin dai primi anni 2000.
Stephen ammette: “Il mio gruppo ideale sarebbe Arthur Russell alla batteria, Kate Bush al Casio SK-1, Judee Sill al basso, i membri dei LAKE al Gamelan, S. E. Rogie alla chitarra, il mio amico Teague al banjo ad una corda suonato con una piuma di pollo amplificato da un impianto da stadio di football americano. Mi piace anche Elliott Smith, ho la copertina di uno dei suoi 7″ tatuato sul mio braccio. Nascondo letteralmente la sua influenza sotto la camicia.”
press: “Arranged Waves is a beautiful sounding album. The sonics are trippy and subdued, but there is a lot of complexity and edginess in the arrangements- even when you might think the arrangement is minimal. The engineering and song structures range from lo-fi to high fidelity and are reminiscent of Wrightoid, No Middle Name, Meat Puppets, Damien Jurado, and John Vanderslice. Steinbrink is a masterful engineer and songwriter, and these two activities form equal parts of his songwriting process. He can do quiet intensity- made possible by his voice, abstract (yet heartfelt) lyrics, innovative arrangements, and top-notch performance- delivered with complete and authentic sincerity.
